Howdy all,
The Python Ireland, Galway branch will be having their monthly meetup in 091 Labs next Wednesday, 14th, from 8pm and then onwards to the bar at the Forster Court Hotel from 9pm.
At the Labs, there’ll be a brief presentation on the online resources to start learning Python and how to improve those skills. If anyone else has anything else to present, mention it on the Python Ireland mailing list.

On Saturday, March 24th, 091 Labs will be throwing its doors open to the public for their first Open Day of 2012 from 11am until 5pm. All are welcome to attend!
We’ll be showing off the Labs and projects that our members are involved in and building. Have a look at our 3D printer, MAME arcade cabinet or sewing machine. Have a discussion over photography, the best kit for home brewing, or why Linux is still clearly better than Windows. Learn to solder. Meet our boardgamers, take part in a game of Street Fighter or test out our cardboard armour!
We’ll be hosting a hackathon from 6pm until 10pm for those who want to come build, make or program something as part of a group. Electronics, crafting, programming, whatever!
091 Labs is the Makerspace for Galway city. Makerspaces are also known as Hackerspaces, and are a type of community-operated workshop or hobbyspace – a physical place where people can meet and work on personal or group projects and share common interests, often in computers, technology, science, light engineering and crafting.
If any person or group is interested in taking part, bringing something along or helping out at the Open Day, contact info@091labs.com to have a chat with us!

Tomorrow we’ll be running a cardboard engineering workshop in 091 Labs from 7pm! We will be showing how to make different kinds of contraptions and armor in cardboard form in conjunction with the NUIG Nothing Specific Society for their Cardboard Wars 2012 event on the 8th of March. We will have some stocks of cardboard but you should bring some of your own in case we run low.

Galway Linux User Group (GLUG) is meeting in 091 Labs this Wednesday, March 7th, from 8pm and then heading to O’Connells pub on Eyre Square from 9pm.
They invite you to come and talk about all things Linux-related (and other things that aren’t too).
This month, some things spoken about will be state of graphical user interfaces in Linux (Unity vs Gnome vs KDE), “is Wayland better than X11?”, “why are these applications not pretty yet?!” and most importantly “Is this beer better than that beer? Let’s find out!”. Lots of discussion and testing will be needed.
