“Introduction to Artificial Intelligence” is one of 3 free online courses Stanford University is offering this fall, taught by Sebastian Thrun and Peter Norvig.
The Galway study group will have an organisational meeting Monday 3 October from 10-11 PM in 091Labs, 47 Eyre Square, 1st Floor (just above Kennedy’s Pub). We’ll talk about why we’re taking the class, what our backgrounds are, and share tips on study materials we’ve found so far. We’re following the advanced (homework) track.
Regular meetings start the following Monday, 9-11 PM, through the end of the course (18 December). The study group is free and open to everyone.
Last Wednesday we did the first of four sessions for the Game Development Workshop at 091 Labs.
It went very well, covering Unity basics (objects, components, input) and Game State Management.
If you missed the first Session but would still like to take part it’s not too late to do so. All project files will be provided on the night and I’ll answer any questions you may have.
Session two is this Wednesday, at 6pm. We’ll be covering the following topics:
- Adding (dumb) enemies to the game.
- Colliders and detecting collisions.
- Creating a damage system (doing and taking damage).
- Controlling particles (and explosions).
- Adding a scoring system.
- Adding a win/lose condition and associated game states.
Below is a screenshot from the upcoming session build showing the player ship destroying a frigate.
The resulting explosion is pushing the other frigates away.
- Runs on the 28th Sept, 5th Oct & 12th Oct.
- From 6pm to 10pm.
- At 091 Labs.
- The workshop costs €20.
- No need to book or pre-pay.
What You’ll Need
- A laptop with Unity installed.
- Experience of a programming language.

091 Labs Movie Crew!
Hi to All!
I would like to announce that the next movie night is going to take place this Sunday from 20:00 in our hackerspace again. After chatting with Carles we have decided that the feature is going to be surprise because it is going to be up to the attendees to decide what to watch. I’m bringing around 50 movies, most of them all time classics + my favorite big selection of http://www.nausicaa.net/wiki/Main_Page
I’m personally voting for http://www.nausicaa.net/wiki/Nausica%C3%A4_of_the_Valley_of_the_Wind (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind)
So please bring your picks and let see what we choose!
There will be some snacks again and short movies, funny commercials etc. before we start.
Hope to see you all,
