Screening of “One Day on Earth”, a collaborative film made in every country on Earth on 10/10/10.
Around the middle of last year, I came across a Kickstarter (or rather was pointed at it by Aaron) that really caught my interest. The idea was that on one day in 2010, specifically 10/10/10, poeple from countries all over the world were asked to film their lives, surroundings and communities with the aim of telling a story of humanity in the start of the 21st century. The story would be a collaborative effort in more than one way. As well as drawing on the many short films, it was to use a now commonplace, but at the time quite novel means of funding. I decided to join the many other Kickstarters and contribute $100 on behalf of 091 Labs. After quite some time, the film was compiled and produced, and eventually, the DVD made its way to Galway.
We will be holding a screening at 091 Labs at 7pm on the 16th of December. All are welcome. All donations to 091 Labs.
There will be a screening of a French (English subtitles) sci-fi comedy film “The Green Beautiful” – La Belle Verte (1996) hosted by Transition Galway starting at 8:15pm Wednesday 21st Nov at the new 091 Labs on Flood Street. Entry is by donation. All are welcome!
As part of an intergalactic coalition, a well-meaning space alien volunteers to bring a message of self-actualization and harmony with nature to the one planet rejected by all her peers as incorrigible–Earth. This family-oriented French sci-fi comedy chronicles her adventures on the chaotic planet. Mila is 150 years old and has five children; encoded in her brain are two telepathic programs designed to restructure the thinking of destructive humans.

Internet Relay Chat is a protocol for real-time communication on the internet and is frequently used in Open Source development among other things. On Friday the 16th of November at 20:00, we’ll be running an IRC workshop to explain how to use IRC and why it’s useful.
This workshop will open for the to the public and will cost €5 for non-Labs members.
There will be a screening of documentary film Koyaanisqatsi – Life Out of Balance (1982) hosted by Transition Galway starting at 7pm this Friday, 26th October. Entry is by donation, and will go towards the redesign of our new space. All are welcome!
An art-house circuit sensation, this feature-length documentary is visually arresting and possesses a clear, pro-environmental political agenda. Without a story, dialogue, or characters, Koyaanisqatsi (1983) (the film’s title is a Hopi word roughly translated into English as “life out of balance”) is composed of nature imagery, manipulated in slow motion, double exposure or time lapse, juxtaposed with footage of humans’ devastating environmental impact on the planet.
